External investigators brought in on morphine/pethidine cases

A Health Board investigating two doctors who prescribed thousands of doses of morphine and pethidine have decided to bring in external investigators in the cases.

A Health Board investigating two doctors who prescribed thousands of doses of morphine and pethidine have decided to bring in external investigators in the cases.

Between them, the GPs issued more than 2,800 doses of drugs in just one year.

On average, five to 10 doses are prescribed over a 12-month period.

The external investigators will also review prescriptions in the unnamed Health Board area during all previous years.
