British police are continuing extensive investigations into Thursday night's suspected Real IRA bombing in the west London suburb of Ealing Broadway.

Scotland Yard believes the blast, which injured seven people, signals a new phase in the terror campaign by republican dissidents opposed to the Good Friday Agreement.

Security in London has been stepped up today because of fears that the Real IRA, which has an active service unit in the city, may attack Queen Elizabeth I's 101st birthday celebrations.

Police have warned the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
