Four people have been killed as a 200-metre wide avalanche hit a road in the Austrian Tyrol.
Several people are also understood to be missing.
The snow crashed onto a mountain pass on the Oetztaler road near Obergurgl and a ski resort south west of Innsbruck.
One hundred rescue workers are using dogs in a bid to locate survivors.
The four bodies recovered so far are from the same car that was one of the first to be uncovered.
Two other people inside the other car were slightly injured.
A police official say metal detectors have not revealed any other vehicles under the snow.
Heavy earth-moving machinery is being used to clear the road.
Thousands of Britons have been skiing in the Alps this week during half-term holidays and many are trapped in the popular ski resorts of Ischgl and Galtuer in Tyrol and Lech and Zuers in Vorarlberg after snow buried road and rail links.
