British Police Complaints Authority to launch investigation

An investigation was under way today by the British Police Complaints Authority after a 14-year-old boy on a motorbike suffered head injuries while being followed by a patrol car.

An investigation was under way today by the British Police Complaints Authority after a 14-year-old boy on a motorbike suffered head injuries while being followed by a patrol car.

The youngster, who was in a critical condition in hospital, was followed by police officers after they saw him riding the bike without a crash helmet on Saturday night.

The schoolboy was ordered to pull over but rode on and was later discovered lying at the side of Chinewood Road, in Batley, West Yorkshire, with head injuries.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the youth, from Healey in Batley, was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary.

He said: ‘‘The matter has now been accepted by the Police Complaints Authority, which is routine in certain circumstances such as these.’’
