Vic: I wanted to escape from jungle

Comedian Vic Reeves said he considered escaping before his eviction from I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! because he was miserable after his wife left the camp.

Comedian Vic Reeves said he considered escaping before his eviction from I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! because he was miserable after his wife left the camp.

The funnyman became the second person to be evicted by public vote from the jungle last night.

He was promptly reunited with his wife Nancy Sorrell, who was the first person to be evicted from the reality television show the day before.

Reeves, 45, arrived at the camp late last week via the team’s daily food parcel after the show had begun.

Reeves donned a home-made cloak and hugged the fellow celebrities before making his way out after seven days in the camp.

He told hosts Ant and Dec the hardest point for him in the jungle was after his wife was evicted. He said he even considered an escape attempt.

He said: “When Nancy went I just got very miserable.

“I asked (to leave). I said I’m going to have to go. I’m missing Nancy too much.

“If it was not allowed I would have pole vaulted. That’s why I made this coat - I thought it would enable me to float.”

He went on to say how awkward his late arrival to the camp had been, turning up in clean clothes “like the first day of school”.

He blamed the scorching heat for tempers fraying in the camp, saying: “It was hellishly hot. Everyone gets a bit tetchy.”

While agreeing that model Sophie Anderton did talk about herself “all the time”, he added: “If it did get on my nerves, I tend to close my ears to it.”

After the live interview, Reeves walked across the bridge and was greeted by his wife with a kiss.

Bookies Ladbrokes said that Huggy, aka Antonio Fargas, was now 4-1 favourite to be evicted next and comic Joe Pasquale was hot favourite to win.

Earlier, Joe faced the most dramatic Bushtucker Trial yet – dangling from a helicopter 200ft above the sea.

Joe’s challenge was to climb down the ladder and unfurl red banners attached to the rope at intervals. Each banner represented a meal for the camp.

Midway through the challenge, he was overcome with exhaustion and cried: “I can’t hold on much longer.”

But the comic persevered and managed to collect all eight flags.

On his return to camp, he told Janet Street-Porter: “You know what kept me going? Thinking of your face if you didn’t have anything decent to cook.”

As a reward for Joe’s efforts, the celebrities were given letters from their families and friends.
