Workers at a Rolls-Royce engineering plant have voted to strike in protest at plans to cut jobs and transfer some work to Canada, it was announced today.
The factory at Ansty, Coventry will be hit by industrial action from next week unless last-minute talks tomorrow achieve a breakthrough.
The Manufacturing Science and Finance union said workers voted by 4-1 in favour of a walkout.
‘‘The ballot result is a major step in our campaign to keep these jobs in Britain and reflects the anger felt by workers who feel betrayed,’’ said MSF national officer John Wall.
The union is fighting to avoid 1,300 jobs being cut and work being transferred to Canada and other UK plants.
Union officials will meet later today to decide their next move if the talks break down tomorrow.
