House price increases have slowed considerably so far this year, according to the latest Permanenttsb house price index.
The index showed house prices rose 3.8% in the first five months of this year, compared to 5.8% in the same period last year.
Permanenttsb said prices increased by 0.5% in May, considerably lower than the 1.2% increase detected in April.
The financial institution said the average price of a house in Ireland in May was just under €243,000.
The average price in Dublin was almost €320,000, while the average price outside the capital was €213,000.
