Fears grow for missing Vicar after blood find

British Police today stepped up their search for a missing 81-year-old vicar after discovering blood in his car and on his private yacht.

Sussex Police are now treating the case of the Rev Ronald Glazebrook as suspicious.

He was last seen outside his flat in St Leonards, East Sussex, at 8.30pm on April 27.

Detectives said they had found blood inside Mr Glazebrook’s Toyota Carina car, parked at his home address. Blood was also found on his yacht the Soulis, moored at Newhaven.

It is not yet known if the blood is that of Mr Glazebrook.

Det Chief Insp Kevin Moore, leading the investigation, said: ‘‘We are treating this disappearance as suspicious. Finding this blood heightens our concern for his safety.

‘‘The Rev Glazebrook was last seen at his flat and I want to hear from anyone who saw anyone at the Soulis at Newhaven.’’

Friends and family of Mr Glazebrook, of Dane Road, say it is very unusual for him to miss worship at Christchurch in London Road, St Leonards, where he still serves.

He was last seen by a neighbour walking his dog Jonti, named after the South African cricketer Jonti Rhodes, on Friday, April 27.

He was reported missing by his daughter, who lives in Surrey.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: ‘‘We are very concerned for the safety of Mr Glazebrook, as his disappearance is totally out of character.’’

Samples of blood taken from Mr Glazebrook’s property by a team of 30 forensic officers have been sent for analysis.

The vicar, who is semi-retired, is white, 5ft 9ins and stocky, with white balding hair and a beard. He normally wears glasses.

Two 17-year-old boys arrested in connection with the disappearance were last night released on bail without charge.
