The Southern Health Board is investigating the use of bovine-based materials in health products administered to patients in what could be a new BSE scare.

The country's health boards had been warned by the US Food and Drink Administration about possible links as far back as 1993.

Fine Gael's Bernard Allen said he had raised the matter at a meeting of the SHB today and said that a report on the issue is likely to be available next month.
