David Coulthard has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix with a thrilling last lap in today’s qualifying session.

David Coulthard has taken pole position for tomorrow’s Monaco Grand Prix with a thrilling last lap in today’s qualifying session.

The Scot took his first pole position at the track with his last qualifying lap to shave 0.2 seconds of the previous fastest time of Michael Schumacher.

The German will start in second spot on the grid with Mika Hakkinen in third and Rubens Barrichello in fourth.

Ralf Schumacher was fifth fastest and Eddie Irvine produced his best performance of the season so far to finish in the top six.

Jordan’s Jarno Trulli and Heinz Harald Frentzen finished eighth and 13th respectively.
