Local authorities have teamed up with Repak recycling and encouraged people to get rid of their Christmas waste in an environmentally friendly way.

In total 60 Christmas recycling centres have been set up around the country to cater for the needs of the festive season.

It's estimated that each household generates almost double their normal amount of rubbish at this time of the year.

Repak chief executive Andrew Hetherington says there is now no excuse for simply throwing waste away.

"Remember that when the party's over that if you recycle all of the used packaging, whether that be cardboard boxes from presents, to wrapping paper, to wine bottles and drink bottles that they have left over and cans" he said.
