There are fears that the fresh wave of industrial unrest at Aer Lingus could affect Ireland's economic success.

The Tanaiste Mary Harney has expressed serious concern about the cabin crew dispute, which has left the entire Aer Lingus fleet grounded until tomorrow.

Over 20,000 passengers have been hit by the strike.

Ms Harney made an appeal to unions and management to find a way to resolve the dispute.

"Every problem can be solved and we have a duty to ensure there is a solution found in this particular industrial relations problem. I have to say that, on the industrial relations front in general, I am concerned with the number of disputes and problems," said the Tanaiste.

"They have the potential to seriously damage and put at risk the economic success that has been hard earned."

She added that they could be resolved through dialogue, discussions, consensus and negotiations.
