Four more people have died in three separate road accidents in the Republic overnight, bringing the death toll so far this year to 140.
The latest victims, a man and woman both 20 years old, died just before 3am when the car they were travelling in crashed into a wall near the Carroll Village Shopping Centre in Dundalk, Co Louth.
A 22-year-old man also died after being knocked down on the Rathmore-to-Millstreet road in Co Kerry at around 9.45pm last night, while a man in his 20s died when his van hit a wall in Fedamore, Co Limerick, at 10.40pm.
The latest fatalities follow the deaths of two other people in road crashes over the bank-holiday weekend.
A 39-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a bollard near Glanmire in Co Cork on Saturday, while a 70-year-old woman died after her car hit a wall in Co Cavan on Friday evening.
In the North, meanwhile, another man died in a collision between two vehicles in Kesh, Co Fermanagh, at around 5pm yesterday.
