Concorde has successfully completed its first flight in four months, with fans giving the supersonic aircraft an enthusiastic welcome back.

The Air France Concorde took off from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and landed an hour later at a military aviation base in Istres, near Marseille in southern France.

The fans had attached a banner to a runway fence which read "Concorde, We Love You".

The plane will stay at Istres for two weeks while ground tests are conducted, which will complement the improvement work being done on British Airways' Concordes in London.

At Heathrow airport, BA has begun fitting specialised liners to the fuel tanks of its Concordes.

BA hope to complete a test flight within 10 weeks, with the aim of returning the fleet to passenger service by the spring.
