The former Real Madrid star is a major doubt for the FA Cup fourth-round trip to non-League Scarborough, along with compatriot William Gallas and Romania striker Adrian Mutu who have both been suffering with minor illnesses.

Forward Hernan Crespo is still out with a calf injury along with other long-term absentees Juan Sebastian Veron (back) and Emmanuel Petit (knee). Winger Damien Duff continues to work his way back to full fitness after dislocating a shoulder and is again likely to be among the substitutes.

Team from: Cudicini; Johnson, Terry, Gallas, Desailly, Huth, Babayaro, Bridge, Gronkjaer, Makelele, Lampard, Duff, Hasselbaink, Gudjohnsen, Cole, Geremi, Mutu, Melchiot, Stanic, Sullivan (gk).
