A 72-year-old man from south Dublin who raped his wife and three daughters and sexually abused two granddaughters has been jailed for nine years at the Central Criminal Court.
One of the man's daughters had earlier asked the court to hand out a just sentence and ignore her father's age.
The man was convicted by a jury last October on 11 charges involving one daughter after a four-day trial.
The victim told the trial that these rapes happened on an almost daily basis between 1978 and 1986. The accused later pleaded guilty to 19 further sample charges involving others.
A detective said the man appeared to be in a dominant position in the family and dealt with his children as he saw fit in terms of sexual abuse.
