Four held in Cork over guns find

Gardai in Co Cork are continuing to question four men after a number of loaded weapons were found in their car.

Gardai in Co Cork are continuing to question four men after a number of loaded weapons were found in their car.

The handguns were discovered when gardai stopped the vehicle at a checkpoint near Mitchelstown at around 9.30pm

A Garda is reported to have spotted a gun in the car. Further searches revealed two more guns. All three are believed to have been loaded.

The men are aged in their mid-twenties to late thirties and are being held at Garda stations in the north and east of the county.

They are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be detained for up to 72 hours.
