A 37-year-old man was being treated in hospital today for gunshot wounds after men forced their way into his house in Co Antrim.

A 37-year-old man was being treated in hospital today for gunshot wounds after men forced their way into his house in Co Antrim.

The incident occurred at a premises in Dunluskin Gardens, Carrickfergus, shortly after 8.30pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said two masked men forced their way inside the house and shot the victim a number of times before fleeing on foot.

It is understood the victim is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

A man was arrested shortly afterwards in connection with the incident and was “assisting police with their inquiries”, said the spokesman.

Police were unable to say whether the incident was connected to an ongoing loyalist feud.
