£400m of European money has been confirmed to fund structural projects in Ireland.

£400m of European money has been confirmed to fund structural projects in Ireland.

The funding includes a £50m overhaul of Heuston Station in Dublin, a new section of motorway from Cloghran to Balbriggan in North Dublin and more funding for the main drainage schemes underway in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy said funding for these projects had now been approved by Brussels.

Heuston, which already has a new concourse, is getting a further £39m for extra tracks, new platforms and signalling.

The new motorway from Cloghran to Balbriggan will be part of the general overhaul of the Dublin-Belfast Road.

There is more cash too for the main water and drainage schemes underway in the country's cities.

Minister McCreevy said this funding was additional to that unveiled under the National Development Plan.
