A hotel where the PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde was due to speak this evening has been at the centre of a security alert.

Two suspect devices were found last night close to the Tower Hotel in Derry, while a third was also discovered in nearby Great James Street.

Hugh Orde had been due to speak at a debate on policing in the hotel tonight, but the organisers have called the event off.

The hotel's residents were evacuated and part of Derry city centre was sealed off while bomb disposal experts dealt with the suspect devices.
