Govt rejects reports about first-time buyers’ grant

The Government has promised that people who applied for the first-time buyers’ grant before it was abolished last year will not be denied the money if the building of their home was delayed beyond their control.

The Government has promised that people who applied for the first-time buyers’ grant before it was abolished last year will not be denied the money if the building of their home was delayed beyond their control.

Reports yesterday said people who applied for the €3,800 grant before it was abolished last December would not be given the money unless they were living in the house by November 13 this year.

Fine Gael claimed this would lead to people losing out on the grant even if the construction of their home was delayed by factors beyond their control.

The Government promised today that this would not happen.
