Tickets sales were also slow with an attendance of fewer than 5,000 expected each day. The organisers had previously said the event would attract 36,000 attendees.

Promoters are in now talks with performers about the possibility of performing in an alternative indoor venue in the town.

Those seeking refunds are being told to contact Ticketmaster.

Local Kerry Independent TD Tom Fleming said organisers might need to re-think the cost of the event in future years.

"Maybe the (36,000) target was too big," he said. "The tickets were also fairly steeply priced at €76 - that's €150 for one day for a couple. Teenagers haven’t that kind of money either.

"I'm sure it can be a great success for next year, and maybe come back bigger and better."
