Former world boxing champion trial starts

Former world boxing champion Steve Collins has gone on trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for allegedly assaulting a bouncer at the National Boxing Stadium last year.

Former world boxing champion Steve Collins has gone on trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for allegedly assaulting a bouncer at the National Boxing Stadium last year.

Mr Collins (aged 42) of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Adrialik Voda, an Albanian, causing him harm at the National Boxing Stadium, South Circular Road, Dublin, on June 3, 2006.

The former super middleweight champion was in court this morning as a jury was sworn in to hear the case which is expected to last three days.

Mr Collins was remanded on bail until this afternoon when the trial will commence before Judge Patrick McCarten.
