‘The Box’ never fulfils early promise

Be careful what you wish for, somebody usually suffers.

Director: Richard Kelly

Cast: Cameron Diaz, Frank Langella, James Marsden

Cert: 15

Be careful what you wish for, somebody usually suffers.

Diaz and Marsden are a middle-class couple with financial troubles who are mysteriously presented with a solution by a sinister stranger (Langella) who arrives with The Box and instructions to press a button for all their cares to be disposed of … the only problem being that someone else has to die to accomplish this.

Finally pressing the button, Diaz unleashes all manner of unsavoury things.

It’s a film full of undelivered promise, opening well enough but quickly coming apart at the seams, decidedly a film of two halves, and they don’t join together.

Star Rating: 3/5
