Thousands walk out for World Heart Day

Thousands of people are taking part in more than 200 walks around the country today as part of World Heart Day.

Thousands of people are taking part in more than 200 walks around the country today as part of World Heart Day.

It's expected that more than 7,000 people will take part in the events to mark the day.

Cardiovascular disease was the cause of 42% of deaths in 2000.

The Irish Heart Foundation warns a lack of physical activity is a major contributor to the disease.

The organisation are encouraging people to incorporate more exercise into their lives. The IHF says walking reduces stress and maintains body weight.
