Cork City get their home campaign underway when they take on St Patrick’s Athletic at Turner’s Cross tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
Despite losing the season’s opener to Galway by three goals, Saints’ boss Jeff Kenna has faith that his side can take something from this weekend and build towards a title challenge.
Kenna said: “It won’t be easy going to Turner’s Cross but we believe in ourselves, we have good players here and still believe that we can be challenging at the top of the table.”
The Saints injury worries continue with Brendan Clarke (foot), Steven Maher, Bobby Ryan and Glen Fitzpatrick (all knee) still out but last season’s top scorer Mark Quigley will have a fitness test.
Gary Dempsey is still suspended but Jamie Harris and Dave Partridge both return to the squad after serving one match bans.
City boss Paul Doolin is likely to start with the same side that recorded a 1-1 draw against Sligo Rovers last weekend.
The Rebel Army’s only absentee is Stephen O’Donnell, who was introduced as a substitute at The Showgrounds only to suffer a knee injury, which looks likely to rule him out for the early part of the new campaign.
