Jump jockey Simon Burrough has announced his retirement from the saddle and will turn his attention to training.

He is best known for his association with the smart chaser Dubacilla and finishing second to Miinnehoma on Just So in the 1994 Grand National.

Burrough, 36, hopes Zaggy Lane, currently in the care of Pat Rodford, will be his first runner as a trainer in the Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter on Saturday.

“Mr Rodford, who I have been with for the last seven or eight years, is retiring and I am taking over the licence,” Burrough told the Racing Post.

“I have no regrets about retiring because I have loved every minute of being a jockey.

“My injuries haven’t been too bad but the time had come to move on and I am looking forward to taking on the new challenge of training.”

Burrough will start with a team of 10 horses based at Ash, near Yeovil.
