CJD scare in French Caribbean
Officials in the French Caribbean have confirmed three cases of a brain wasting condition in the islands and said one could be vCJD - the human form of mad cow disease.
Two of the patients with the disease are on the French island of Guadeloupe and one is on St Martin.
One of the patients is possibly suffering from the variant form of the disease, linked to the consumption of beef tainted with mad cow disease, according to the French Government’s top official on Guadeloupe, Jean Francois Carenco.
The other two cases are suspected to be another form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease with no links to eating infected meat, he said.
