Ho-hum feel to Laois/Galway clash

Defender Brian McCormack popped over the match-winning point in a disappointing Division 1B clash in Portlaoise.

Laois 0-8 Galway 0-7, Portlaoise

Defender Brian McCormack popped over the match-winning point in a disappointing Division 1B clash in Portlaoise.

The first inter-county game under the O'Moore Park floodlights was a forgettable affair with both sides wayward with their shooting.

The sides were level at 0-5 apiece at half-time. Nicky Joyce landed three early points for Galway but two 'Beano' McDonald scores and overs from Paul Lawlor and Paul Tierney had Laois in front.

The Tribesmen got back on terms, then a 68th-minute point from substitute Ja Fallon nudged them 0-7 to 0-6 ahead but Brendan Quigley and McCormack rescued the win for Laois.
