Poor telecom infrastructure in Ireland has hit 73% of Irish companies, a new survey has shown.
Ernst & Young's Global Information Security Survey 2003 reported that 73% of Irish companies suffered information systems outages due to Ireland's unreliable telecoms infrastructure.
The findings also reveal that Irish companies rate computer viruses and employee misconduct with company computers as their top information security concerns.
Key Irish highlights from the report include:
* 20% more Irish companies are insured to cover losses due to outages than their British counterparts
* The threat of domestic cyber terrorism is rated as a significantly lower level of concern in Ireland than in the EU
* 58% of companies in Ireland rate the Government as marginal or inadequate in securing its critical information infrastructure in the event of a disaster
* 69% of Irish companies use employee handbooks for information security compared to only 47% of companies in the EU.
