A four-year-old boy who was struck by a truck in Cork city on Friday has lost his fight for life.

A four-year-old boy who was struck by a truck in Cork city on Friday has lost his fight for life.

Kelvin Purcell from Hollyhill was playing with a skateboard when he was hit.

Meanwhile, a woman is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash in County Galway this morning.

The crash happened on the N17 between Claregalway and Tuam at around 6.30am this morning, when a car and a lorry collided.

The woman, who was the driver of the car, was taken to Galway University hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.
