Naylor wants end to Celtic's travel sickness
Celtic must translate their domestic form onto the European stage if they are going to break their away-day hoodoo, according to defender Lee Naylor.
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League holders travel to Villarreal this week for their second Champions League Group E match of the season looking for a first ever away win in the competition.
Indeed, Celtic have taken a solitary point from 15 matches away from Parkhead, a statistic they must improve upon to have a realistic chance of reaching the knockout stage for the third straight season.
“We have been playing well, producing good stuff and scoring tremendous goals - but it will be a lot harder in the Champions League,” Naylor said in the Sunday Mirror.
“I feel the squad is better than at any previous time while I have been at the club and we now have the competition for places you need at this level.
“I know it’s been a struggle away from home in the past and we have to improve that – but I can honestly say that is not something I think about.
“You just have to glance at Villarreal’s results at home in Europe to see that they are quality. We will have to be at our best to get something.”
Naylor, 28, shrugged off summer stories linking him with a return to the Midlands, where he began his career with Wolves.
He said: “I’m comfortable at the club and you can rest assured it did not stop me from enjoying my summer break.”
