Matt Cardle could miss tomorrow’s ‘X Factor’ show through illness, it has emerged today.
The 27-year-old singer – who is the bookmakers favourite to win the ITV1 talent show – was forced to pull out of a secret gig this week after losing his voice and now there are concerns he will not be able to sing on the live show.
A source said: “Matt is putting a brave face on things but his voice is in a bad shape and he could miss the semi-final. He’s really low because he’s desperate to be at his best for such a vital show.
“Matt was advised by doctors to rest his voice so didn’t perform.”
Speaking before the show at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden, Matt told disappointed fans: “Sorry I can’t sing tonight. I just have to hope my voice gets better for the weekend. There is not much else I can do.”
As well as Matt struggling with his voice, his fellow contestant Mary Byrne has also lost hers and is a doubt for tomorrow after struggling at the show on Wednesday.
The source added to the Daily Star newspaper: “She felt fine and was given the go-ahead to sing but was having problems afterwards. She was very upset.”
A show spokesman said: “Matt and Mary have been told to rest their voices. We’re hoping they will both be fit for tomorrow night.”
