DAA case put on hold, but SIPTU warn threat remains

The Dublin Airport Authority's High Court case to stop work stoppages at the country's main airports by SIPTU members has been put on hold due to talks between the parties.

Counsel for the DAA informed Mr Justice Paul Butler that there had been developments in relation to the threatened industrial action by DAA and Aer Lingus staff in a row over pensions.

Because of negotiations, SIPTU has called off work stoppages that were scheduled to start at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports in the early hours of Monday.

However, SIPTU is warning that the threat of industrial action at the country's main airports has not gone away.

Talks aimed at resolving the dispute have resumed at the Labour Relations Commission in Dublin between management at both the DAA and Aer Lingus and SIPTU officials.

Dermot O'Loughlin from SIPTU. Speaking on his arrival at the LRC, says action will be taken if no resolution is reached.

"Reluctantly I have to say where we're at at the moment is a dark place. There will be no industrial action on Monday but I can give no guarantees that it won't return sooner rather than later.

"We don't want to be striking and taking industrial action but we do want people to realise this is a fiasco brought on by the Dublin Airport Authority, the pension regulator and Aer Lingus."
