Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of a 70-year-old man in Cavan last weekend.

Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of a 70-year-old man in Cavan last weekend.

Patrick Jackson died after an altercation in a pub car park on Bridge St in the town on Saturday night.

It is understood he received a number of blows to the body when the dispute began with a group of teenagers and died in the arms of his daughter.

The arrests were made in dawn raids on homes in Cavan town this morning.

Three of those detained are being held in Cavan Garda Station, with three others in Monaghan Garda Station.

They are being detained under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to 12 hours without charge.
