Gardaí to raise awareness of smartphone thefts

More than 40 smartphones were stolen in Ireland every day last year, according to the Gardaí.

They are today launching a new initiative addressing the rising issue of smartphone theft.

As part of their leaflet campaign, Gardaí are appealing to people to take a note of their device's IMEI number.

That number is found on the inside of every phone and can be used to deactivate it remotely and keep their personal data safe.
