Kildare County Council says it hopes to have water restored to around 40,000 people today, following a major fault, which left some homes without water for more than 24 hours.

Supply was cut because of an electrical fault at a pumping station in the north of the county.

Engineers from Kildare County Council worked through the night to have water restored to the affected areas.

Council officials are asking people in the area not to use washing machines or hoses today while pressure is returning to normal.
