A consumer watchdog has called for a full investigation into how chicken sold in this country contained high levels of added water and added cow and pig proteins.

The Consumer Liaison Panel has demanded that Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh makes the findings of an inquiry made public.

The revelations of the extra contents of many chicken fillets sold in Ireland caused shock last month.

The Panel also wants a full explanation of how the chicken was imported into the EU, repackaged, thawed, tampered with and re-frozen.
