Health Minister Micheál Martin has announced the creation of 150 new jobs at Pinewood Healthcare in Co Waterford.

Health Minister Micheál Martin has announced the creation of 150 new jobs at Pinewood Healthcare in Co Waterford.

Sixty-five positions have already been created this year at the Ballymacarbry manufacturing facility, with the remaining 185 to be filled over the coming 18 months.

Today’s announcement is a central element of a €19m investment programme by Pinewood Healthcare, the largest Irish-owned pharmaceutical company in the country.

In addition to the creation of 150 jobs, the expansion will comprise some additional 14,000 sq ft at the company’s manufacturing facility which will increase the company’s production capacity of medicinal products in oral and topical formulations from 30 million packs per annum to over 65 million.

Minister Martin said: “Pinewood’s investment announcement is not only an important one for Waterford, but also for Ireland. Pinewood Healthcare has succeeded in building a major Irish-owned pharmaceutical company that has made its mark in both national and international markets – in what can be correctly described as a highly competitive sector.

"In the process they have succeeded in creating sustainable employment for over 285 people. This level of employment is soundly based on Pinewood’s success in developing a profitable and internationally competitive business with a strong export base. I look forward to hearing more from this company in the months and years ahead."
