The SIPTU leadership is due to meet with the union’s CIÉ strike committee today in an effort to prevent an internal split over industrial relations strategy.

On Wednesday night, the leadership called off a planned 24-hour bus and rail stoppage only to be accused by the strike committee of going behind the backs of the workers.

The strike committee described the leadership’s actions as "treachery", but SIPTU president Jack O’Connor has insisted that he and his colleagues are committed to fighting the Government’s plans to privatise 25% of Dublin Bus services.
