The AIBP Group, which owns many of Ireland's largest meat factories, has settled a long-running legal dispute with the Department of Agriculture for €3.81m.

The legal action was initiated by the Government due to irregularities in the beef intervention scheme in the early 1990s, but was settled out of court today.

Under the settlement, AIBP agreed to pay €3.81m to the department, while the department agreed to release payments for deboning beef which have withheld since 1991.
