Punters set for ego boost

Ego can make the step up to Group class a positive one and land the Betfair Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.

The improving Green Desert filly was impressive at Doncaster last month when she gained a comfortable length and three quarters success over Sarayat.

Having tracked the early leaders, Geoff Wragg’s charge showed a tremendous turn of foot to control things in a matter of strides.

That performance showed Ego to be full of promise and came on the back of an equally impressive Newmarket success when she beat Cat Ona High by a length in August.

Although she needs to step up on both performances to land tomorrow’s Group One affair the signs are that she can do so and advertise her potential for the major prizes next season.

Darryll Holland reached his fourth century of winners earlier this week and he can further boost his tally and instigate a quick Wragg double by booting The Whistling Teal home in the Fishpools Furnishings Godolphin Stakes.

Another with a fine turn of foot, The Whistling Teal was beaten just under two lengths by Systematic at Doncaster last time but that form was advertised by the victor coming out and winning again at Ascot on Sunday.

Wragg’s charge missed most of the summer action through injury and goes into the mile and a half race a relatively fresh animal which can stand him in good stead against his rivals.

Leicester maiden winner Ringing Hill could well follow up in the Finnforest UK Rated Stakes, while Torosay Spring can give the James Fanshawe/Oscar Urbina team another success by landing the Boadicea Fillies’ Rated Stakes.

At Lingfield, course and distance winner Southampton Joe can complete a quick double at the Surrey track.

Last month, Ian Balding’s charge got the better of Swift Alchemist by a head on easy ground.

However, the gutsy juvenile showed he is not fazed by faster conditions when a head second to Happy Camper at Nottingham in August and the Pergo Nursery Handicap looks within his grasp.
