French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s office says six people linked to a French aid group have been released after nine months in captivity in Somalia.

Mr Sarkozy’s office, in a statement today, welcomed the release of the four Europeans and two Kenyans working for the aid group Action Contre la Faim.

The statement provided no details about how they were freed. The aid group’s Paris headquarters could not immediately confirm the release.

The two French workers, a Belgian and a Bulgarian were kidnapped with their Kenyan associates in November about 360 miles north of the capital Mogadishu.
