UK police charge four in terror raids
Four men were charged with terror offences tonight following a series of raids in Birmingham, England, police said.
Three of the men were charged with engaging in conduct with the intention of assisting in the commission of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2006, West Midlands Police said.
The men include a 29-year-old from Bordesley Green, Birmingham, a 30-year-old from Sparkbrook, Birmingham, and a 34-year-old from Ward End, Birmingham.
A fourth man, 31, from Hodge Hill, Birmingham, was charged with failure to disclose information relating to an act of terrorism, under the Terrorism Act 2000.
All four men will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow.
A fifth man was released without charge, police said.
All the men were arrested in a series of dawn raids on October 21.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: ``Four men have been charged with offences under the Terrorism Act following their arrest in Birmingham last Tuesday, October 21.
“West Midlands Police would like to thank members of the community for their support during this operation.”
Officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit at West Midlands Police raided six homes and two commercial properties at about 6am last Tuesday.
Police said shortly after the arrests that they were “not related to any immediate plot or threat to public safety” and that no-one else was being sought in connection with the investigation.
