Macca admits he's confused by omission
Steve McManaman has claimed his omission from Sven-Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad is ‘‘very confusing’’.
The Real Madrid winger is gearing up for this week’s Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen but despite playing for one of Europe’s top clubs has never commanded a regular spot in the Swede’s England plans.
And McManaman admits he has no idea why he has been ignored by Eriksson, who has not spoken to him for several months.
He told ‘Sport on Five’ on BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘‘He rang when I was out and left a message on my mobile phone saying I was not in the squad. It was a brief message.
‘‘I have not spoken to Sven in the last four months and I hadn’t been in the three or four previous squads so in that respect it wasn’t much of a surprise.
When asked why he had not been picked, McManaman said: ‘‘I haven’t the slightest idea. I don’t know.’’
