Tim Henman has battled his way into the Wimbledon quarter-finals tonight with a dramatic 6-2 7-5 6-7 7-6 victory against big-serving Australian Mark Philippoussis.
The British number one, who had struggled at times during the fervour of ‘People’s Sunday’, produced his best form of the championships to keep alive his dream of becoming the first British men’s Wimbledon singles champion for 68 years.
He had to overcome a spirited Philippoussis fightback in the final hour but with the light fading he never lost his nerve, finally coming through after two tight tie-breaks to book his place in the quarter-final against Croatia’s Mario Ancic.
