Staff at two schools at the centre of the investigation into the murders of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman were this week preparing for the start of the new term.
Soham Village College and the neighbouring St Andrew’s primary have been sealed off for the past two weeks as police mounted a detailed search for clues.
But as the search comes to an end staff are being allowed back into parts of the school in readiness for the start of term on Monday September 9.
Holly and Jessica, both 10, went missing on August 4. Their bodies were found close to a track near Wangford, Suffolk, on August 17.
Today the scene around where their bodies were found remained cordoned off and guarded by police.
Officers say the forensic examination of the area could take some time.
The funerals of both girls, which will be private, family services, are expected to take place this week.
Jessica’s family were today marking what would have been her 11th birthday.
:: Ian Huntley, 28, a former caretaker at Soham Village College has been accused of their murders and is being held at a high-security hospital under the terms of mental health legislation.
His partner, Maxine Carr, 25, a former teaching assistant in Holly and Jessica’s class at St Andrew’s primary, is accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice. She is being held on remand in prison pending trial.
