IFA slams cut in funding for meal disposal

The Irish Farmers Association has accused the Government of threatening the future of the agriculture sector by announcing a €44m cutback in funding for the disposal of meat and bone meal.

The Irish Farmers Association has accused the Government of threatening the future of the agriculture sector by announcing a €44m cutback in funding for the disposal of meat and bone meal.

The IFA said the move would have serious consequences on its members and could put some out of business.

Spokesman Derek Deane said: "I believe that farming has been seriously targeted and farming as we know it will be unsustainable if these cuts are carried through."
