Moon Over Miami is still set to take his place in the Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy, despite being pulled up at Warwick.
Charlie Mann’s seven-year-old, previously second favourite for the two-mile novice championship, burst a blood vessel in the Systems By Design Kingmaker Novices Chase.
Mann was keen to forgive his charge and believes the delayed start to the race, caused by Big Buck’s’ late switch of jockey, was to blame.
Big Buck’s was due to be ridden by Christian Williams, but after he suffered an injury in the opening race Liam Heard stepped in.
“Christian Williams should not have been allowed to weigh out, it’s as simple as that,” said Mann.
“My guy got himself all worked up down at the start and by the time they were off I knew what was going to happen.
“He burst a blood vessel on the first circuit but he’ll still go for the Arkle.
“According to the statistics he should win as he runs one bad race and one good one!”
Totesport pushed out Moon Over Miami from 9s to 16-1 for the Arkle following his disappointment in the Kingmaker, which was won by Kruguyrova.
