A last-minute rush for EuroMillions lottery tickets is expected today after organisers announced a huge jackpot of €100m.
Organisers urged players to buy tickets early to be in with a chance for tonight’s rollover draw after Tuesday’s prize went unclaimed.
The Irish National Lottery, on the other hand, points out that €100 million could earn €10,000 daily in interest alone.
Lottery organisers have faced pressure to donate Tuesday’s un-won EuroMillions total to help people in the typhoon-struck Philippines, with a petition attracting more than 30,000 signatures.
A spokeswoman for Camelot, the UK company involved in theEuroMillions, said that while the company “fully appreciates the sentiment” behind the petition, the cash “simply isn’t ours to give” because it belongs to players in the nine European countries where the game is played.
